The Wine Tasting Class

Learn to Taste Wine

Cheesecake Farms might be smack in the middle of Virginia's gracious horse country but it's wine country, too!

And there's no better way to spend the day than meandering (and tasting) the fruit of our vines!!

If you don't know your vintage from your vinifera, this class will pop your cork!

Fun and informal.

Learn the Five S's of wine tasting......

See...Swirl...Sniff...Sip...& Savor.

That’s how the pros do it!

You'll bring a tasting sample of your favorite wine to class to use in discovery.

After class, you’ll head out to our local wineries (with a goodie bag full of coupons & discounts) to practice your new skills!

You will have developed a new appreciation for the elegance that is wine and an understanding of what all the excitment is about.

You'll come away looking like a pro to even your most wine savvy friends!

Day Class, only

Scroll down to sign up on line.... and bring a friend!

What to Bring for Class

Each person must bring the following supplies to class:

  • 2 wine glasses of the same size and shape.  Glasses should be clear and not colored glass.
  • 2 unblended wines of the same type but from different regions or vintage years - about ½ cup each in separate, labeled containers or bottles.  Choose your favorite wine!

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

For Example:

1 (1/2 cup) Merlot – California (region)

1 (1/2 cup) Merlot - Virginia (region)

Same wine (Merlot) but from different regions (California & Virginia)

OR

1 (1/2 cup) Merlot - Virginia 1990 (vintage year)

1 (1/2 cup) Merlot - Virginia 2006 (vintage year)

Same wine (Merlot) from the same region (Virginia) but from different vintage years (1990 & 2006)

Choose your favorite wine - either red or white but not both.

Bring single variety wines.

Do not bring blends.

In addition to regular size bottles, lots of wines come in small bottles boxes & splits for your convenience.

If you are coming with others, you can bring whole (750ml) bottles allowing 4 to 6 per bottle for tasting purposes.

Choose only 1 variety of wine

But choose 2 different regions or 2 different vintage years

White Wine Examples (Do not bring blends)

Chablis

Chardonnay

Pinot Gregio

Riesling

Viognier

White Bordeaux

Red Wine Examples (Do not bring blends)

Bordeaux

Cabernet Franc

Cabernet Sauvignon

Chianti

Merlot

Pinot Noir

Shiraz

Confused about what to bring?

Here are examples:

Choose 2 white or red, unblended wines by either regions or vintage years.

Do not mix region and vintage.
